Kura Sushi (くら寿司) is a conveyor-belt sushi chain, and this guide covers ten central Tokyo branches, and every one we checked starts at ¥145 a plate. The official English name is "Revolving Sushi Bar Kurasushi", which is why people also search for "kura revolving sushi bar". Kura says it has more than 500 stores in Japan, and what sets it apart is Bikkura-Pon: feed finished plates into a slot at your table and a game on the touch panel can drop a capsule prize.
This guide covers the Kura Sushi branches in Shibuya, Shinjuku, Harajuku, Ginza, Asakusa, Oshiage, Okachimachi, Ikebukuro and Shinagawa, with address, floor, hours and nearest station checked against Kura's official store pages and Tabelog in 2026. It also explains how to reserve, how the game works, and how Kura compares with Sushiro. For other chains and areas, see our Tokyo conveyor belt sushi guide and the best sushi chains in Japan.

It opened with ukiyo-e and lantern decoration, a festival-style (ennichi) corner with target shooting and ring toss, and a 4-language ordering panel; those details come from the 2020 opening press release, so ask staff what is running on the day. It seats 272 and is on the 4th floor of Asakusa ROX, about 133 m from Asakusa Station on the Tsukuba Express. After 21:00, use Kura's dedicated elevator next to the ROX building to go straight to 4F. The capsule game works differently here. You win on the touch panel or a smartphone order, then play Bikkura-Pon! DX (a giant digital version) or Bikkura-Gyo! (a digital target-shooting game) after you pay. The 1F and 2F attractions differ. You need your own smartphone because none are lent out, seat changes are not accepted after you sit down, and the optional Bikkura-Pon Plus (+¥10 per plate) is not offered here.

How to reserve and skip the queue
You can book a table at Kura Sushi for a set time in three ways: the official Kura Sushi app (powered by EPARK), a web booking page that needs no membership, or the LINE account of each store. Each store page shows the earliest slot still available. Kura's own page describes the service as free.
Here is the official first-visit flow:
- Reserve on your smartphone.
- Check in at the automatic kiosk and take the seat-number slip.
- At your table, find the chopsticks, soy sauce, sweet sauce and powdered green tea.
- Order on the touch panel, or scan the code with your phone. Orders arrive on the express lane.
- Put finished plates in the slot, and play Bikkura-Pon.
- Pay with the checkout button; plates are counted automatically.
For hot tea, put about a teaspoon of the powder in your cup and press the cup against the hot-water tap at the table. Sushi on the belt sits under covers; press the button to open one. Credit cards are not accepted at some Kura stores (cash only), but every central Tokyo store page we checked lists the major cards and many QR payments.
How the Bikkura-Pon game works
Drop your finished plates into the plate-return pocket at your table. Every 5 plates starts a game on the touch panel, and if you win, a capsule drops with a prize, usually goods featuring Kura's character Muten-maru or a collaboration. Kura has run the game since 2000. You cannot choose the prize.
Ways to get more tries:
- Smartphone ordering: you get one Bikkura-Pon try per ¥550 spent, even on side dishes that do not go in the plate slot.
- Bikkura-Pon set items: these come with one guaranteed prize (Kura's example is a 6-piece sushi set at ¥690; set prices vary by store).
- Bikkura-Pon! Plus: choose it on the touch panel before you order, and each eligible plate costs +¥10 (tax included); one in every 3 games is a guaranteed win. You cannot switch back once chosen, and touch-panel and smartphone game counts are separate. It is not available at Oshiage.
The "present system" icon on some store pages is not Bikkura-Pon. It is a celebration service where you order a message from the touch panel and it is delivered on the lane. Oshiage uses the digital versions described in its section above.

Menu highlights
Kura's official menu lists far more than sushi. Prices on the official menu page are for the base tier, and the ¥145-tier stores in Tokyo differ, so we list items rather than prices.
- Noodles and rice: seven-seafood soy ramen, rich miso ramen, sesame tantanmen, beef-bone ramen, natural-dashi udon, ebi-ten udon and unadon.
- Sides: chawanmushi, Kura Potato fries, karaage and takoyaki.
- Desserts: Kando no purin (pudding), mille crepe, cheesecake, Kyoto warabi-mochi, Yume no Fuwayuki shaved ice and parfaits.
- Drinks: Super Dry and Maruefu draft beer, sake and [Muten] cola.
Kura says none of its 200+ ingredients, including gari, soy sauce, vinegar, dashi, sushi vinegar, wasabi, mayonnaise and dressings, use the "four major additives": chemical seasonings, artificial sweeteners, synthetic colourings and artificial preservatives. Allergen, calorie, ingredient and origin information is on the official site; the English site links to Allergen and Ingredients pages. Sushi covers have a QR-based time-limit system that discards plates after a set time.
Sushiro vs Kura Sushi
Which is better depends on what you want from the meal. These points come from the two chains' official pages:
| Kura Sushi | Sushiro | |
|---|---|---|
| Plate price (Shibuya Ekimae) | From ¥145 (central Tokyo tier) | From ¥150 (tax included) |
| Location | Udagawacho 23-3, 7F | Udagawacho 23-5, 6F, next door |
| Reservation | App, web without sign-up, LINE | LINE reservation |
| Cards | VISA, Mastercard, JCB, AMEX, Diners, Discover | Same list at this branch |
| English | Ordering in 4 languages; minimal English site | English site |
| Entertainment | Bikkura-Pon capsule game | No Bikkura-Pon |
Only Kura has Bikkura-Pon, so it is the pick for anyone who wants a game with dinner. Whether Sushiro tastes better is opinion; our best sushi chains in Japan ranking compares Sushiro, Kura, Hama and Uobei side by side.
FAQ
- How much is Kura Sushi in Tokyo?
- Every central Tokyo branch we checked (Shibuya, Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku Yasukuni-dori, Asakusa ROX, Harajuku, Ginza, Oshiage, Okachimachi, Ikebukuro and Shinagawa) charges from ¥145 per plate, tax included. This is not limited to the flagship stores. Cheaper tiers of ¥110, ¥115 and ¥125 exist nationwide but are suburban; Higashi-Mukojima in Sumida-ku, for example, is ¥125. Some items and prices differ at the Global Flagship branches.
- Which Kura Sushi is closest to Shibuya or Shinjuku?
- In Shibuya, Kura Sushi Shibuya Ekimae is on the 7th floor at Udagawacho 23-3, about a 5-minute walk from Shibuya Station. In Shinjuku, Nishi-Shinjuku is about 100 m from Shinjuku-nishiguchi Station on the Toei Oedo Line, and Shinjuku Yasukuni-dori is about 233 m from Shinjuku-sanchome Station.
- Is there a Kura Sushi in Akihabara or near Tokyo Station?
- No. The official store locator lists no branch in Akihabara or near Tokyo Station. The nearest Kura to Akihabara and Ueno is Okachimachi, and the nearest central branch to Tokyo Station is Ginza.
- Can you make a reservation at Kura Sushi?
- Yes. Use the official Kura Sushi app (EPARK-powered), the web booking page that needs no membership, or the store's LINE account. Each store page shows the earliest available slot. Some stores also list a phone number.
- How does Bikkura-Pon work and what do you win?
- Put finished plates into the slot at your table. Every 5 plates starts a game on the touch panel, and a win drops a capsule with a prize, usually goods featuring Kura's character Muten-maru or a collaboration. You cannot choose the prize. Bikkura-Pon Plus costs +¥10 per eligible plate and guarantees a win on one in every 3 games.
- Is Bikkura-Pon different at the Oshiage flagship?
- Yes. At Oshiage you win on the touch panel or smartphone order, then play Bikkura-Pon! DX or Bikkura-Gyo! after paying. The 1F and 2F attractions differ, you need your own smartphone, and Bikkura-Pon Plus is not offered.
- Does Kura Sushi have an English menu?
- Yes. Smartphone ordering supports Japanese, English, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional) and Korean, and the Asakusa flagship's ordering touch panel supports 4 languages. The "104 languages" figure in some media refers to a translation device used by staff, not the ordering tablet. Kura's English website is minimal, mainly allergen and ingredient pages.
- Does Kura Sushi accept credit cards?
- At every central Tokyo branch we checked, the official store page lists VISA, Mastercard, JCB, AMEX, Diners and Discover plus many QR payments. Kura's guide notes some stores are cash only, and Tabelog says the Harajuku branch does not accept e-money, so check the store page.
