Standing Sushi Bar Shinjuku 2026: 7 Spots, Sushi From ¥130

Standing Sushi Bar Shinjuku 2026: 7 Spots, Sushi From ¥130

Standing sushi bars in Shinjuku: Uogashi Nihon-Ichi near the West Exit and Sushi Yoko inside the JR gates. Hours, prices and payment tips for 2026.

Introduction

The best standing sushi bars in Shinjuku are Uogashi Nihon-Ichi, Sushi Yoko inside JR Shinjuku Station and Tachi Sushi Yokocho, where Tabelog budgets start at ¥1,000–1,999 and one bar lists sushi from ¥130 a piece. You stand at a counter, order, eat and leave, with no booking and no conveyor belt.

This guide covers 7 standing sushi bars around Shinjuku, plus one brand-new opening, chosen because each is confirmed as a standing or part-standing counter on its official page or Tabelog listing (checked October 2026). Four get full write-ups. Three get shorter entries because some details, such as hours, closed days or English menus, are not confirmed, and we write "check the official site" instead of guessing. For seated sushi and omakase, see our best sushi in Shinjuku guide.

The counter below is the Shibuya branch of Uogashi Nihon-Ichi, shown to illustrate the standing format. Do not read the price tags in the photo as current prices.

1. Uogashi Nihon-Ichi Shinjuku Nishiguchi (魚がし日本一 新宿西口店) — standing-only, 5 min from the West Exit

The Nishiguchi shop is a standing-only counter: Tabelog lists 15 seats, all standing. The operator, Nippan, describes the format on its brand page as a return to the sushi yatai (street stall) of 200 years ago, with nigiri made to order and handed across the counter. Nippan opened its first standing-style Uogashi at Shinbashi Ekimae in 1989, and says it buys fish directly at the Toyosu and Ota markets and delivers to its stores twice a day.

The shop is on the ground floor of the Kasai Building, about 5 minutes on foot from JR Shinjuku Station. Some older guides list it as closed at weekends, but the official shop locator shows it open on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Walk in, stand at the counter and tell the chef what you want. Takeaway is available.

What to order

  • Edomae nigiri, ordered piece by piece across the counter
  • Takeaway nigiri if you would rather eat elsewhere

Practical info

  • Location: Kasai Bldg 1F, 1-12-12 Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo
  • Nearest station: JR Shinjuku Station ~5 min (350 m); Toei Oedo Line Shinjuku-nishiguchi ~6 min; Tochomae ~7 min
  • Hours: Mon–Fri 11:00–23:00; Sat, Sun and holidays 11:00–22:00 (official locator). Tabelog shows slightly different weekend times, so hours can vary.
  • Closed: None listed
  • Price: Per-piece prices are not published on the official pages we checked. Tabelog budget is ¥1,000–1,999 for dinner.
  • English menu: Not confirmed on official sources; check the official site / Google Maps
  • Reservation: Walk-in
  • Payment: Cards, transit IC, nanaco, WAON, iD, PayPay, d Barai, Rakuten Pay and au PAY (Tabelog)
  • Source: Official shop locator

Insider tip

Check the weekend hours on the official locator before you go. They differ from some older guides and slightly from Tabelog.

2. Sushi Yoko iiTO LUMINE (立鮨 すし横 イイトルミネ新宿店) — inside the JR ticket gates, open from 8:00

Sushi Yoko iiTO LUMINE is the one standing sushi bar on this list you cannot reach from the street. It is on B1 of iiTO LUMINE Shinjuku, inside the JR ticket gates on the West Gate side, so you need a JR ticket or an IC card tap to get in. That makes it a good fit for a quick meal between trains, and at 8:00 it opens earlier than any other bar here. Tabelog lists 16 standing seats, and the shop opened on 17 April 2024.

Tabelog's budget range is ¥1,000–1,999. One Retty review from October 2025 mentions a 10-piece lunch set at ¥1,280, but treat that as a reviewer's report and check the current menu. Reviewers also say you write your order on a paper slip rather than calling it out. Tabelog shows cards, e-money and QR payments accepted.

What to order

  • Nigiri sets
  • The 10-piece lunch set a reviewer reported at ¥1,280 (confirm it is still offered)

Practical info

  • Location: iiTO LUMINE Shinjuku, 3-38-2 Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo (B1, inside the JR ticket gates)
  • Nearest station: JR Shinjuku Station, B1 inside the ticket gates (West Gate side)
  • Hours: Daily 8:00–23:00 (L.O. 22:30)
  • Closed: None listed
  • Price: Tabelog budget ¥1,000–1,999 (users report ¥2,000–2,999)
  • English menu: Not confirmed; check the official site / Google Maps
  • Reservation: Walk-in
  • Payment: Cards (VISA, Mastercard, JCB, AMEX, Diners), e-money and QR codes (Tabelog)
  • Source: Tabelog

Insider tip

Tap in with a JR ticket or IC card first, because this is the only bar here behind the gates. The paper-slip ordering comes from reviewers, so confirm at the counter.

3. Tachi Sushi Yokocho Shinjuku Nishiguchi (立ち寿司横丁 新宿西口) — sushi from ¥130, open 11:30–22:30

Tachi Sushi Yokocho is the biggest of the West Exit standing bars. Tabelog lists 40 seats, about 20 at the counter and about 20 in a standing area, so it is the largest bar in this guide. It is next to the Yamada Denki store, about 5 minutes from the West Exit of JR, Odakyu and Keio Shinjuku Station (3 minutes from Shinjuku Station on the Toei Oedo Line), and it opened on 11 July 2018.

Tabelog's PR text says sushi starts from ¥130 a piece. Its budget range is ¥1,000–1,999 for dinner and under ¥999 for lunch. Hours run from 11:30 to 22:30 (last order 22:00) with no closed day listed. It also sells takeaway sushi tubs (oke-zushi). How ordering works is not described on the sources we checked, so ask at the counter.

What to order

  • Nigiri from ¥130 a piece
  • Takeaway oke-zushi tub for a hotel-room dinner

Practical info

  • Location: Omi Bldg 1F, 1-18-13 Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo
  • Nearest station: JR / Odakyu / Keio Shinjuku Station West Exit ~5 min; Toei Oedo Line Shinjuku ~3 min
  • Hours: 11:30–22:30 (L.O. 22:00)
  • Closed: None listed
  • Price: Sushi from ¥130 (Tabelog PR text); Tabelog budget ¥1,000–1,999 dinner, under ¥999 lunch
  • English menu: Not confirmed; check the official site / Google Maps
  • Reservation: Walk-in (no reservation information on the sources we checked)
  • Payment: Cards (VISA, Mastercard, JCB), transit IC, Edy, nanaco, WAON, QUICPay, PayPay, d Barai, Rakuten Pay and au PAY (Tabelog)
  • Source: Tabelog

Insider tip

Tabelog notes that children are allowed, so this is the easiest pick here for a family.

4. Tachigui Sushi Yachiyo Shinjuku-sanchome (鮨處八千代) — Kinokuniya B1F, English-speaking staff

Yachiyo Shinjuku-sanchome is a standing-only counter in the basement of the Kinokuniya Building on the East side. The official shop list calls it a standing-sushi format, and Tabelog lists 13 places at the counter, all standing. It is the easiest bar here for visitors: Tabelog notes English and Chinese-speaking staff, and the shop has a photo menu. It is about 3 minutes from the JR Shinjuku East Exit and about 232 m from Shinjuku-sanchome Station, and it opened on 8 June 2023.

The Shinjuku-sanchome menu on the official site is an image only, so the only published prices are from the chain's grand menu (shown for the Iidabashi shop, which says prices vary slightly by store). Single pieces run from ¥165 (kappa roll, natto) to ¥550 (otoro, uni), tax included. Tabelog's budget is ¥3,000–3,999 for dinner and ¥1,000–1,999 for lunch, so it is the pricier of the four main bars.

What to order

  • Edomae nigiri by the piece
  • Maguro 5-piece set or aburi sets from the chain menu (check they are available at this shop)

Practical info

  • Location: Kinokuniya Building B1F, 3-17-7 Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo
  • Nearest station: JR Shinjuku Station East Exit ~3 min; Shinjuku-sanchome Station ~232 m (Tabelog)
  • Hours: Mon–Fri 11:00–14:30 (L.O. 14:00) and 16:30–22:00 (L.O. 21:30); Sat, Sun and holidays 11:00–21:30 (L.O. 21:00)
  • Closed: None (official)
  • Price: Chain menu ¥165–¥550 a piece, tax included; Tabelog budget ¥3,000–3,999 dinner
  • English menu: Photo menu; staff speak English and Chinese (Tabelog)
  • Reservation: Walk-in; takeaway available, no delivery (official)
  • Payment: Cards (VISA, Mastercard, JCB, AMEX, Diners, UnionPay), transit IC and other e-money, PayPay and d Barai (Tabelog)
  • Source: Official shop page

Insider tip

On weekdays the shop closes between 14:30 and 16:30. Its official site also mentions sushi-making classes for tourists, so ask there if you want more than a quick meal. Ignore the Yotsuya Station access note on the shop table, which is copied from another branch; use the Tabelog directions above.

5. Tachigui Sushi Misaki, Keio Mall (立食い寿司 みさき 新宿京王モール店) — connected to the station

Misaki's Keio Mall shop is a standing sushi counter in the underground Keio Mall, directly connected to JR Shinjuku Station (about 59 m, per Tabelog). It opened on 11 November 2022. The shop name and Tabelog genre both say standing sushi, but Tabelog gives no seat count, so we list it with less certainty than the first four. It operates under the Kyotaru brand, part of the FOOD & LIFE COMPANIES group that also owns Sushiro. Tabelog's budget is ¥2,000–2,999 for dinner and ¥1,000–1,999 for lunch. For the menu, English menu and closed days, check the official site / Google Maps.

Practical info

  • Location: Keio Mall, 1-1 Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo
  • Nearest station: JR Shinjuku Station, directly connected (~59 m)
  • Hours: 10:00–22:00 (Tabelog marks these as subject to change)
  • Closed: Not listed; check the official site / Google Maps
  • Price: Tabelog budget ¥2,000–2,999 dinner, ¥1,000–1,999 lunch
  • English menu: Not confirmed; check the official site / Google Maps
  • Reservation: Walk-in
  • Payment: Cards (VISA, Mastercard, JCB, AMEX, Diners), transit IC, iD, QUICPay and PayPay (Tabelog)

6. Namae no Nai Sushiya (名前のない寿司屋) — Kabukicho, ¥10 specials with a drink

Namae no Nai Sushiya, "the sushi bar with no name", is an evening standing-counter bar in Kabukicho. Tabelog lists an indoor standing counter for 10 (maximum 3 people per group) and 5 outdoor table seats. The draw is the ¥10-a-piece specials, which are available only if you order a drink, and there is a ¥330 table charge (otoshi). It is cash only: no cards, e-money or QR. Tabelog lists closed days as irregular and its address stops at 1-12 Kabukicho, so use the Tabelog map and check before you go. English menu: check the official site / Google Maps.

What to order

  • The ¥10 specials, with a drink

Practical info

  • Location: 1-12 Kabukicho, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo (no building or number beyond this on Tabelog; use its map)
  • Nearest station: Seibu-Shinjuku Station ~5 min (250 m); JR Shinjuku ~10 min
  • Hours: Mon–Fri 17:00–23:00 (L.O. 22:45); Sat, Sun and holidays 16:00–23:00 (L.O. 22:45). Tabelog says these may change.
  • Closed: Irregular
  • Price: ¥10 specials only with a drink, plus a ¥330 otoshi; Tabelog budget ¥2,000–2,999
  • English menu: Not confirmed; check the official site / Google Maps
  • Reservation: Walk-in
  • Payment: Cash only
  • Source: Tabelog

Insider tip

Bring cash and keep your group to 3 or fewer, since that is the counter limit Tabelog lists.

7. Tachikui Sushiho Tentekomai (立ちくいすし舗 てんてこ舞い) — Hokuriku fish, 1 min from Higashi-Shinjuku

Tentekomai is a late-night standing bar by Higashi-Shinjuku Station, run by an owner from Hokuriku who serves Hokuriku fish, Toyama rice and Hokuriku local sake. The fish comes through the owner's own route and from Toyosu. Tabelog lists counter seating for 10 with standing space, so the format is mixed. It is the priciest option here, with a Tabelog dinner budget of ¥4,000–4,999, and it is farther from Shinjuku Station than the others, so it is a pick for the second half of an evening rather than a quick lunch.

The sources disagree on hours and closed days. The official site gives 18:00 to 26:00 last entry (that is, until 2:00) and closes every Monday and the 1st Tuesday; Tabelog says 18:00–24:00 and closed on the 1st–3rd of the month and the 3rd Monday. Check before you go. Tabelog says it takes no cards.

What to order

  • Hokuriku fish on Toyama rice
  • Hokuriku jizake (local sake)

Practical info

  • Location: Lions Mansion Shinjuku Dai-2 B1 (No. 3), 7-27-4 Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo
  • Nearest station: Higashi-Shinjuku Station (Fukutoshin / Oedo Lines) Exit A2, 1 min
  • Hours: 18:00–26:00 last entry (official); Tabelog says 18:00–24:00. Check the official site.
  • Closed: Official: every Monday and the 1st Tuesday. Tabelog differs; check the official site.
  • Price: Tabelog budget ¥4,000–4,999 dinner
  • English menu: Not confirmed; check the official site / Google Maps
  • Reservation: Walk-in, or phone 090-6729-1015 (official contact)
  • Payment: No cards; e-money accepted; no QR (Tabelog)
  • Source: Official site

New opening: Sushi Yoko Hanare (立鮨 すし横 はなれ 新宿西口店)

Sushi Yoko Hanare opened on 2 October 2026 in Nishi-Shinjuku Bldg 1F, about 2 minutes from Shinjuku Station, with an English menu listed on Tabelog and a ¥1,000–1,999 budget. Hours are not published yet, so check the Tabelog listing before you go.

How to choose

By budget. Uogashi, Sushi Yoko iiTO and Tachi Sushi Yokocho all list a Tabelog budget of ¥1,000–1,999, and Yokocho advertises sushi from ¥130. Misaki and Namae no Nai Sushiya sit at ¥2,000–2,999, Yachiyo at ¥3,000–3,999 and Tentekomai at ¥4,000–4,999.

By area. The West Exit has Uogashi, Tachi Sushi Yokocho and the new Sushi Yoko Hanare. Inside or connected to the station are Sushi Yoko iiTO (inside the JR gates) and Misaki (Keio Mall). The East side has Yachiyo at Shinjuku-sanchome. Namae no Nai Sushiya is in Kabukicho and Tentekomai is by Higashi-Shinjuku Station.

By style. For a first visit with English support, pick Yachiyo. For a stop between trains, pick Sushi Yoko iiTO. For groups and children, pick Tachi Sushi Yokocho. For a drink with cheap pieces, pick Namae no Nai Sushiya, with cash. For Hokuriku fish and sake late in the evening, pick Tentekomai. If you want no cash at all, Uogashi, Sushi Yoko iiTO, Yokocho, Misaki and Yachiyo all take cards or IC cards.

How a standing sushi bar works

Standing bars have no belt. At Uogashi, the operator's brand page says nigiri is made to order and handed across the counter, and Tabelog's seat fields list standing counters at most of the bars above. You order from the chef or, at Sushi Yoko iiTO, reviewers report a written order slip. We found no source for how orders work at the other shops, so ask at the counter.

Pricing. You order piece by piece. Among these bars only Yachiyo publishes a per-piece list (chain menu, tax included): ¥165 for basic rolls and pieces, ¥275 maguro, ¥385 ikura, ¥440 chutoro and ¥550 otoro or uni. Tabelog dinner budgets run from ¥1,000–1,999 (Uogashi, Sushi Yoko iiTO, Tachi Sushi Yokocho) up to ¥4,000–4,999 (Tentekomai).

Cash or card. Uogashi, Sushi Yoko iiTO, Misaki, Yachiyo and Tachi Sushi Yokocho take cards and IC cards. Namae no Nai Sushiya is cash only, and Tentekomai takes no cards (e-money is accepted).

Reservations. These are walk-in counters. Namae no Nai Sushiya limits groups at the counter to 3, and its ¥10 specials apply only with a drink. Yachiyo's sister shop in Yotsuya says it does not accept reservations. Tentekomai lists a phone number for bookings.

Standing vs conveyor belt. A kaiten chain such as Kura uses a belt, a touch panel or smartphone ordering, plate-counting slots, self-checkout and seated booths. A standing bar has none of that: a chef makes each order and hands it over a standing counter. For the belt format in Shinjuku, see our conveyor belt sushi in Shinjuku guide, and for national brands see the best sushi chains in Japan.

FAQ

What is a standing sushi bar (tachigui sushi)?
A standing sushi bar is a counter where you stand, order nigiri piece by piece from the chef and eat straight away. Uogashi Nihon-Ichi's operator describes it as a return to the sushi street stalls of 200 years ago. Unlike conveyor belt sushi, there is no belt, and a chef makes each order and hands it across the counter.
Where is the best standing sushi near Shinjuku Station?
For a street-level standing-only counter, Uogashi Nihon-Ichi Shinjuku Nishiguchi is about 5 minutes from the JR West Exit. Tachi Sushi Yokocho is a similar distance and lists sushi from ¥130. On the East side, Yachiyo at Shinjuku-sanchome has English-speaking staff and a photo menu.
Is there standing sushi inside Shinjuku Station?
Yes. Sushi Yoko at iiTO LUMINE Shinjuku is on B1 inside the JR ticket gates, so you need a JR ticket or IC card tap to enter. It opens daily from 8:00 to 23:00. Misaki in Keio Mall is directly connected to the station but is in the underground mall.
How much does standing sushi cost in Shinjuku?
Tabelog dinner budgets run from ¥1,000–1,999 (Uogashi, Sushi Yoko iiTO, Tachi Sushi Yokocho) up to ¥4,000–4,999 (Tentekomai). Tachi Sushi Yokocho lists sushi from ¥130 a piece, and Yachiyo's chain menu runs ¥165 to ¥550 a piece including tax. Uogashi does not publish per-piece prices on its official pages.
Do standing sushi bars take credit cards?
Most do. Uogashi, Sushi Yoko iiTO, Misaki, Yachiyo and Tachi Sushi Yokocho accept cards and IC cards according to Tabelog. Namae no Nai Sushiya in Kabukicho is cash only, and Tentekomai takes no cards but accepts e-money.
Do I need a reservation?
No. The bars in this guide are walk-in counters. The exception is Tentekomai, which lists a phone number for bookings. Namae no Nai Sushiya allows a maximum of 3 people per group at its counter.
Is Uogashi Nihon-Ichi Shinjuku open on weekends?
Yes. The official shop locator lists Monday to Friday 11:00 to 23:00 and Saturday, Sunday and holidays 11:00 to 22:00. Some older guides say it is closed at weekends, and Tabelog shows slightly different weekend times, so hours can vary.
Do standing sushi bars have English menus?
Not confirmed for most of them. Yachiyo Shinjuku-sanchome has a photo menu and English and Chinese-speaking staff, and the new Sushi Yoko Hanare lists an English menu on Tabelog. For the others, check the official site or Google Maps.
